Anton Pitkänen is mixed media artist based in Helsinki, Finland. His artistic style combines craft-like techniques, like weaving fabric or yarn, to painting and drawing. With his works he holds a conversation with himself and the forces influencing his life. Individual processes are often twofold: first meditative and introspective weaving or knitting of the background, secondly depicting the pictures, sentences and words born during the process on top by painting and drawing. Characteristic feature in his work is the story-like essence and colour schemes. Pitkänen gets his inspiration from nature and science as well as stories and video games.
”Most important thing for me is getting quiet and introspective. There's a prayer-esque quality to my working - crafting with care around a thought or an experience and bringing it to life. It feels important to show proper respect and attention to individual works and for them to become something of a standalone piece, jewel of an object, in addition of being on a continuous line of personal works. Very simply put, colours schemes are about emotions, drawings and paintings on top about thoughts. All the harmonies, dynamics and contradictions within those is what captivates me the most.”
